BACKGROUND
Although the catalyst for starting this initiative is the introduction of Eurocodes, this new initiative is the concept of John Morton. In 1978 and 1979, John organised a nationwide series of courses for engineers to enable them to familiarize themselves with the then-newly-published BS5628. Each course was run in conjunction with a Branch of the Institution of Structural Engineers. These were hugely successful and widely appreciated. John offers the same facility now through BMADE – but via Hands-On workshops with only 16 - 18 participants. BMADE will use any accruing surplus to either subsidise events where they would otherwise be cancelled or make charitable gifts to the IStructE Benevolent Fund or to Branches of the Institution.
