PROFILE

Between 2002 and 2005, Nary Narayanan FREng was the Chairman of the CEN (European Standards Body) committee TC 250/SC2, which is responsible for all the structural Eurocodes on Concrete. He has been closely involved in Eurocodes for the past 20 years or so. He has lectured on Eurocodes extensively all over the world, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Kaula Lumpur, Singapore, Colombo, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Dubai, Qatar, Damascus, Larnaka, Moscow, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Dublin and many centres in the UK.


Nary Narayanan also sits on a number of committees of the BSI (British Standards Institution), including that which is responsible for BS8110 (Structural use of concrete). He is the author of a number of books and manuals on Eurocode 2 (on concrete) and is also the chairman of the committee, which drafted the ‘Green Book’ for BS 8110 and the ENV EC2 (Manuals for r.c. building structures) produced by the Institution of Structural Engineers.


Mr Narayanan is also the Chairman of the Working Group responsible for wind codes in the UK. He was the UK technical contact for the Eurocode on wind loading. His Working Group drafted the UK National Annex for BSEN 1991-1-4.


Nary Narayanan, who is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and had been a visiting Professor at the University of Leeds, is a consulting engineer with over 45 years of experience. He is currently a consultant to Clark Smith Partnership, London.
