COURSE DETAILS

Eurocode 5: EN1995 Part 1-1: DESIGN OF TIMBER STRUCTURES – GENERAL – COMMON RULES AND RULES FOR BUILDINGS

This introductory one-day course provides an opportunity to be introduced to Eurocode 5 focusing on the key elements of the new design code.

The course is workshop-style and is interactive with worked tutorial examples based on practical design problems. Participation is encouraged throughout and delegate numbers are limited to approx. 16 to facilitate this approach.

After a brief summary of the differences between EN1995-1-1 and BS5268, the course will cover the following themes:

  • The interface between EN1995-1-1 and other Eurocodes, EN product standards and UK National documents [NA & PD6693]
  • Material properties
  • Design for ultimate limit states [bending member & compression member]
  • Design for serviceability limit states [deflection & vibration]
  • Design of dowel-type fastener joints

  • WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Civil and structural engineering designers who wish to update on the differences between BS5268 and EN1995-1-1 and the new aspects contained in EN1995-1-1.

The course normally runs from 09:00 to 17:00. Morning coffee, afternoon tea and, unless catering facilities are close to the venue, a light lunch are provided.

Course notes are provided to delegates as a .pdf file. Delegates are required to print this off beforehand or bring it with them on a laptop. Delegates should also bring the Code and the National Annex for part 1-1 as well as a calculation pad and calculator.

All timings, except the start time, are approximate and may be adjusted to suit natural breaks in the programme.
